Agromet Advisories

Farmers and all other farm managements are advised to follow the guidelines of Government of Bangladesh to avoid infection and social transmission of CORONA virus (COVID-19). Precautions and safety measures should be taken up to prevent the Carona virus spread. Simple measures include social distancing, maintaining personal hygiene by washing hands with soap, wearing of face mask, drink hot water, stay at home and cleaning of implements and machinery. Farmers should not work in a group; consult with a doctor in case of any symptom. Please stay at home does not visit the field until it is very necessary.

Salient Weather Conditions & Forecast

As per the weather forecast of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) during next 24 hours’ rain/thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty/squally wind is likely to occur at one or two places over the district. Day and night temperature may fall slightly over the district. As per the outlook issued by BMD for next 72 hours’ rain/thunder showers activity may increase and temperature may fall further. During last four days, light rainfall occurred over the district and as per the quantitative medium range weather forecast; there is a possibilities of light rainfall is likely during next five days.  Detail Agromet advisory are given below.

Boro paddy

Flowering to Harvesting stages

• Maintain 2-3 inches standing water level of boro rice field from Panicle Initiation to Soft Dough.
• In case of bacterial leaf blight, stop application of urea fertilizer. In the initial stage of the disease, apply 60 gm MOP, 60 gm thiovit in 10 liters of water and apply on 5 decimal of the land. In case of disease before panicle initiation, 5 kg of potash fertilizer should be applied at top dressing per bigha.
• Neckblast disease may occur at this stage of boro paddy, so whether the disease is present in the paddy field or not, at the stage of Panicle Initiation, in 5 decimal of the land, 8 gm of Trooper / 6 gm of Nativo / Tricyclazole group approved fungicide should be mixed well in the afternoon in 10 liters of water for 5-7 days’ intervals should be sprayed twice.
• At this time the land may be attacked by brown grasshoppers. Approved pesticides should be applied in prescribed doses in attack prone areas.
• To protect from kalbaishakhi strom and hail damage, cut and thresh as soon as 80% of the grains are mature.

​Vegetables

• Prepare the land for planting kharif vegetables.
• To protect the seedlings from disease, shade should be given for 3/4 days after transplanting.
• If there is lack of moisture in the soil, give irrigation.
• Arrange for hand pollination of pumpkin vegetables. If beetles appear, kill them by hand in the morning and afternoon.
• In case of fly infestation in pumpkin, use pheromone and poison traps together. Pesticides of Alpha-Cypermethrin group can be used.

Horticultural crops

• Fruit orchards need to be intercultural operation.
• Sumithion 50 EC of Phenitrothion group should be mixed with 1.12 ml per liter of water and sprayed in the last afternoon to control flies the time of fruit maturity in mango tree. Spraying of all types of pesticides should be stopped 15-20 days before fruit collection.
• At this time soft rot disease of jackfruit may occur. Apply approved pesticides.
• Provide irrigation as requirement.

Livestock

• Cattle should be fed with hay, raw grass and hand-made granular feed. Preserve paddy straw properly now.
• Vaccine the cattle to prevent disease.
• Keep the cattle house dry and clean. Use mosquito nets or earthenware pots coils at room.

• Keep cattle safe placefrom lightning and rain.

Poultry

• Vaccine the chickens regularly to prevent disease.
• Keep the poultry house dry and clean. Use mosquito nets or earthenware pots coils at room.

Fishery

• Now is the right time to stock fish. Prepare the pond.
• Catch all the old fish by drying the pond or applying Rotenon (25 g / decimal / ft). After 2/3 days apply 1 kg lime per decimal
• Apply fertilizer (200 g urea per decimal, 100 g TSP) and 3/4 days after lime application.
• 3/4 days after application of fertilizer, if the water color is green, store the layer-based fish fry.
