Agromet Advisories

Farmers and all other farm managements are advised to follow the guidelines of Government of Bangladesh to avoid infection and social transmission of CORONA virus (COVID-19). Precautions and safety measures should be taken up to prevent the Carona virus spread. Simple measures include social distancing, maintaining personal hygiene by washing hands with soap, wearing of face mask, drink hot water, stay at home and cleaning of implements and machinery. Farmers should not work in a group; consult with a doctor in case of any symptom. Please stay at home does not visit the field until it is very necessary.

Salient Weather Conditions & Forecast

As per the weather forecast of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) during next 24 hours’ Weather may remain mainly dry with partly cloudy sky over the district. Night temperature may rise slightly and day temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the district. As per the outlook issued by BMD for next 72 hours’ night temperature may fall at the end period. During the last four days, no rainfall occurred over the district and as per the quantitative medium range weather forecast; there is no possibility of rainfall is likely during the next five days.  Detailed Agromet advisory are given below.

Aman:

• Maintain the required water level in the land.

• In case of infestation of stem borer insects, apply 180-190 gm of Cartap group or 10 gm of Thiamethoxam + Chlorantraniliprol group of pesticides per bigha for control.
• In case of bacterial blight, in the early stages of the disease, mix 60 gm MOP, 60 gm thiovit in 10 liters of water and apply on 5 decimal of the land. If the disease occurs before the heading stage, 5 kg of potash fertilizer should be applied per bigha.
• In case of infestation of leaf-wrapping insects, apply 180-190 gm of Cartap group or 10 gm of Thiamethoxam + Chlorantraniliprole group of pesticides per bigha for control.

• Dew or drizzle rain is conducive to blast disease. In this type of weather, once in a while and 5-7 days after the emergence of heading, apply 54 gm of Trooper 75 WP / Difa 75 WP / Jill 75 WP or 33 gm of Nativo 75 WG or Tricyclazol / Strabin only per bigha of land. Mix well in 67 liter of water and spray in the last afternoon.

• Rice Bug insect infestation may occur at the grain formation stage. Apply Carbaryl or Isoprocarb / MIPC group pesticides in approved doses if one Rice Bug insect is found in 2-3 bunches on an average.
• Brown Plant Hopper may be attacked. In case of high infestation, apply Isoprocarb / MIPC group pesticide at the rate of 175 gm per bigha.
• Use light traps to control insects.
• Drain out water from the paddy field 15 days before harvesting
• If the crop is 80% mature, collect it in a sunny day.
• Apply pesticides.

Wheat:

•     Continue sowing wheat from 15th to 30th November.

Potato:

• November is the best time to plant potatoes. Continue planting potatoes in the current weather  conditions. If there is no necessary moisture in the soil after sowing, provide irrigation as required.

Maize:

•  Continue sowing the seeds. Apply first irrigation within 15-20 days of sowing, second irrigation within   30-35 days, third irrigation within 60-70 days and fourth irrigation within 85-89 days.

Sugarcane

• Sugarcane stems can be attacked by red rot disease. Infected trees should be removed from the land along with bushes as soon as the disease is seen. Water should be removed from the sugarcane field very quickly.
• To control the Sugarcane Stem Borer, remove the soil from the base of the sugarcane with a spade. Drain out accumulated water from the land. Old dried leaves should be removed from the trees, collected and burnt or buried under the ground. Egg parasitic hornet Trichogramma Chilonis should be released in the affected land at the rate of one gram per hectare per week (approximately 50,000). Apply Virtako 40 WG (Thiamethoxam + Chlorantraniliprole) to the infested sugarcane bush in the approved dose for control of stem borer insects with pesticides or Cartop granular pesticides such as Nokotap 6G cut the shallow drains on both sides of the sugarcane row and sprinkle in the drains then cover with soil or sprinkle at the base of the tree.

• Apply light irrigation and pesticides.

​Vegetables

• Now is a good time to cultivate winter vegetables. Take necessary care after planting the seedlings.
• In case of infestation of bean aphid, collect the affected leaves, tips, flowers, fruits and insects by hand and kill them. If the level of infestation is high, spray Ebamactin (1%) + Acetamiprid (3%) group pesticide at the rate of 0.5 ml per liter of water in the last afternoon.
• In case of infestation of eggplant tip and fruit borer insects, cut and destroy the affected tip along with the insects. Insect reproduction can be greatly reduced by using pheromone traps. Only use moderate amounts of specific potent chemical pesticides or locally recommended organic pesticides if absolutely necessary.
• In case of infestation of eggplant tip and fruit borer insects, cut and destroy the affected tip along with the insects. Insect reproduction is likely to be greatly reduced by using pheromone traps. Use spray of approval dose of insecticides, if necessary or recommended local organic insecticides may be used.
• If the spiders attack the chilly, soak 1 kg half-broken neem seeds in 20 liters of water for 24 hours and spray the water (after chopping) on ​​the underside of the leaves. If the infestation is severe, spray the spider mite Omit 57 EC at the rate of 2.0 ml per liter of water or Vertimek 1.8 EC at the rate of 12 ml per 10 liters of water.
• Apply light irrigation and pesticides.

Horticultural crops

• In case of spider infestation on the coconut tree, all the young caconut of the affected tree should be cut down and burnt. Infected trees and nearby young trees should be sprayed with any spider repellent such as Omite 57 EC mixed in 1.5 ml of one liter of water.
• In case of symptoms of Sigatoka disease on banana leaves, 0.5 ml of Score or 2 g of Noin or Bavistin or 0.1 ml of Econazole / Folico should be mixed in every liter of water and sprayed 2-3 times at intervals of 15-20 days.
• Apply Isoprocarb (MIPC) group pesticide if banana beetle infestation occurs.
• In case of infestation of milli bugs on papaya trees, the infected leaves / stems including insects should be collected and destroyed at the beginning of the attack. If the infestation is severe, mix 5 gms of soapy water or Admire 200 ml at the rate of 0.25 ml per liter of water and spray 2-3 times in 15 days.

• Apply light irrigation and pesticides.

Livestock:

• Cattle should be fed with hay, raw grass and hand-made granular feed.
• Vaccinate cattle regularly to prevent disease.
• Sprinkle potassium permanganate solution to remove odors around.

Poultry:

• Vaccinate chickens regularly to prevent disease.
• Sprinkle potassium permanganate solution to remove odors around.

Fishery

• Prepare the pond for the next season by collecting the fish to be collected at the present time.
• Apply 200-250 grams of lime per decimal to clean the water of ponds where fish cannot be extracted.
